Hans-Peter Brecht,
Ph.D.
After military service
in the German Air force, Peter studied Applied Laser
Technology at the University of Applied Science in
Emden Germany. Peter focused his studies on laser
based measurement techniques and the medical
application of lasers. As part of his undergraduate
degree he spent one year as a visiting student at
the Bioengineering department at Rice University in
Houston, where he helped setting up an optical
tweezer system for the study of Outer Hair Cell
Basal Membrane properties.
He did his work for his undergraduate thesis at the
University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston (UTMB),
where he worked on the optoacoustic determination of
total hemoglobin concentration in the radial artery.
After finishing his engineering degree, he enrolled
at UTMB as a graduate student. He continued to work
in the same Laboratory and wrote his doctoral thesis
on the determination of blood oxygenation in large
veins. During his work at UTMB Peter built
optoacoustic detectors, designed and programmed
positioning equipment and wrote programs for data
acquisition and analysis.
At Fairway Peter is currently responsible for the
optoacoustic mouse imaging system. His work includes
system design and building, experimental design,
data and image processing.
