ThermaRx Inc. is an
early stage medical device company based in Houston,
Texas focused on developing and marketing innovative
products that provide novel therapeutic applications
of heat to improve a variety of health conditions.
A major focus of company’s initial work is to
develop products aimed at helping patients with
urinary hesitancy, which affects over 40 million
people in the U.S., and many more worldwide.
Urinary hesitancy is a problem which affects people
of all ages and occurs in both sexes, but it is most
common in older men with enlarged prostate glands.
Using heat-induced
relaxation of the bladder neck, ThermaRx’s heating
technology facilitates urinary voiding. The
company’s products aim to help two major groups of
patients with urinary hesitancy: Benign Prostatic
Hyperplasia (BPH - enlarged prostate) and Paruresis
(also called Shy Bladder).
BPH is a serious medical condition that affects more
than 50% of men over age 60 and as many as 90% of
men over the age of 80. It is estimated over 13
million Americans are suffering from this condition.
Shy Bladder is an equally significant medical
problem affecting over 20 million Americans. For
those who are seriously affected the condition
brings severe limitations to their daily lives.
Approximately 90% of those affected by Shy Bladder
are male.
